Explore the wonders of Central and South America in Alexandria! Land of the Jaguar, a renovation of the Zoo’s South American section, is the largest project the Zoo has undertaken since the Louisiana Habitat Exhibit, which opened in 1998. The renovation dramatically changes the look of the area while offering exciting new ways for visitors to discover over 40 different species of wildlife featured in the exhibit.
This beautifully renovated area of the Zoo showcases the magnificent animals, architecture, and culture of Latin America. Guests will enter through Mayan temple ruins, trek through an Amazonian village, and end their journey at the edge of the Andes Mountains.
FUNDING Land of the Jaguar is funded through a SPARC grant, with additional funding from the City of Alexandria, Friends of the Alexandria Zoo, and private / corporate donors.
