Global Animal Transport, recently imported into the United States the first Asian Elephant since 1991.

"Chendra", a 4-6 year old female was brought into the Oregon Zoo in Portland, Oregon in mid November, 1999. She was donated to the Oregon Zoo by the Sabah Wildlife Department, as a means of continuing the efforts in captive breeding of many severely endangered species.

The Oregon Zoo has a long and very successful history in the breeding of Asian Elephants and it is hoped that Chendra's addition will help further along these ambitious efforts with the Asian Elephant population.

Global Animal Transport, working in union with its affiliates in Malaysia, handled all the logistical arrangements to safely transport Chendra from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia into San Francisco and ultimately to her new home in Portland.
